New Mexico Horse Council Foundation


The New Mexico Horse Council Foundation, Inc. was formed in 2002 and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, herein referred to as the Corporation.

The purposes for which the Corporation was formed are

  • to encourage, by public contribution, support of worthwhile charitable, scientific, and educational projects of interest and benefit to such purposes;
  • to make contributions or gifts to or for the use of any program, entity, corporation, trust, fund, or foundation, organized and operated exclusively for charitable, scientific or educational purposes in the horse industry;
  • to assist and support research into the care and prevention of equine diseases and injuries;
  • to promote education through grants, by scholarships or otherwise, to individuals, programs,institutions, and organizations, and by encouragement of research through grants to individuals, institutions and organizations;
  • and in general to do and engage in any and all lawful activities that may be incidental or reasonably necessary to any of these purposes and to exer ise all other powers and authority now or hereafter conferred upon non-profit corporations in the State of New Mexico.
The Corporation operates exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes.

2009 Scholarships

Scholarships in the amount of $500 each were awarded to four New Mexico high school seniors.

Kaylin R. Beeman
Carlsbad High School, Carlsbad, NM
  GPA of 4.89, Star Scholar: Top 10% of New Mexico High School Students; George Ladd Scholar; Presidential Scholar; National Honor Society; American Association of University Women Student of the Month
  Some examples of her community leadership: New Mexico High School Rodeo State Secretary; New Mexico High School Rodeo Student Delegate; Wrangler Division All Star Team; 4-H; Spanish Club; Volleyball; Boys and Girls Clubs Tutor.
Kaylin is attending New Mexico State,  majoring  in Animal Science. She plans to  go on to  Colorado State to become a veterinarian specializing in equine surgery.
Kaylin’s Spanish Teacher and Rodeo sponsor described her as follows:  “Kaylin has won and continues to win in many rodeo events including Breakaway Roping, Goat Tying, Barrel Racing and pole Bending…Kaylin has carried her determination, self-discipline, and drive into the classroom as well.  She has rodeoed through her high school career and still has taken numerous Advanced Placement classes  in what is one of the most academically challenging courses of study available to our students here at Carlsbad High School.  She has managed her time and applied herself to all aspects of her life and will be graduating eleventh in a class of over three hundred.”

Emily Mackay
Maxwell High School,  Eagle Nest, NM
GPA 3.38, Principal’s Honor Roll;   Superintendent’s Honor Roll; National Honor Society Vice-President
 Some examples of her community leadership: President 2009 and Secretary 2008 for Vermejo  4-H ; National Honor Society Vice-President; Highway clean-up, fairgrounds clean-up and an adopted family through 4-H
 Attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa
 Emily is described by a teacher by the following:   “ Emily has learned to manage her time, complete her work on time, work in group situations under strict deadlines and recognizes the importance of a strong desire to succeed.”

Desirae Dawn Evans 
Tucumcari High School, Tucumcari, NM
GPA 3.269 She was on the A-B Honor Roll from 9th through 12th grade.  She lettered in Academics in the 12th grade. She was a varsity cheerleader for 4 years, a member of the the Student Council for 11th and 12th grades, and Student Council Treasurer in 12th grade. Other awards she has earned:  Outstanding Quay County 4-H ‘er, 2005, 2006, 2007; Quay County Achievement Award 2008, AQHA Horse Fiesta High Point Senior Youth 2007; All Breed Horse Show Association Reserve High Point Sr. Youth, 2008. 
 Desirae has been very active in her community.  She has been a member of FFA for 11th and 12th grades, a member of 4-H and treasurer in 10th and president in 11th and 12th grades.  She has been a member of the American Quarter Horse Youth Association for the past four years.  She has been involved in numerous other volunteer activities such as soil conservation, community trash pickup, food for the needy project and a Christmas in Iraq project in 2008. 
 Plans to attend New Mexico State and major in Journalism and Mass Communications.  She enjoys writing essays and stories.

Amanda Lee McComb
Roy High School, Springer New Mexico
  GPA 3.436 .  She earned 29 hours of college credit in high school. Amanda was Class Treasurer in 9th grade, Student Council Representative in 10th grade, Class Vice-president and Treasurer in 11th grade and class President and Student Council Representative 12th grade. 
 Amanda has been involved in 4-H throughout high school with awards in Livestock Skill-A-Thon at New Mexico State.  She has been involved in volleyball and named to All-District Volleyball Team and District 1-A Volleyball Runner-up Champions.
 In addition, Amanda has worked at several cattle ranches doing everything from branding and cattle drives to waitressing and predator control by hunting coyotes. 
She plans to major in Animal Science at New Mexico State and become a veterinarian.
 A family friend and rancher describes Amanda as “In the past few years, I have witnessed Amanda make decisions based far more on values than quick personal gain.  Amanda finishes what she starts and does not let the problems life often throws us stop her from completing any task.  Amanda is one of these rare gems who give 110% of her energy, thoughtfulness and creativity.”
