Preparing for end-of-life decisions is challenging yet critically important to ensure humane care of our horses. In this seminar, we will discuss equine end of life considerations, choices for humane equine enuthanasia, and viable options for carcass disposal. Discussion of planning for equine care upon death of an owner will also be discussed. Participants can anticipate leaving the seminar feeling prepared to create written end-of-life plans.

About our Speaker:

As a passionate educator and change agent, Dr. Karin Bump’s work in the equine industry in New York spans three decades. Highlights include member and past-chair of NYFB equine committee with leadership leading up to passage of ‘Safety in Agricultural Tourism Act’, and representation of the NY equine industry on several task forces including the NYS Governor’s Task Force for Strategic Interagency Alliance on Lessoning Obstacles to Agriculture; NYS Governor’s Task Force on Retired Racehorses; Department of Agriculture and Markets ‘Pride of NY’ Task Force. Her career trajectory includes 28 years as a Professor in equine studies and business management and 4 years as an Executive Director within the Cornell Cooperative Extension system. She is also a contributing member of Extension Horses and a certified small business mentor through SCORE. Karin, along with her husband, Tim Williams, has launched several initiatives including the National Association of Equine Affiliated Academics nonprofit organization, the Equine Education Network; and Equine Academics outreach and consulting. Most recently, she and her husband have launched Saddle Up NY! as a promotion- connection-education business to advance the New York State equine industry.
