State Line Tack® is incredibly excited to announce the April 2nd, 2021 Netflix release date of Concrete Cowboy. A Hollywood story near and dear to our heart, the movie is based on the novel ‘Ghetto Cowboy’ by G. Neri, and, more importantly, the research for the film was done largely at Philadelphia Urban Riding Academy, which was the focus of State Line Tack’s very first Program Spotlight.
Loaded with a star-studded cast and fantastic equine co-stars, the movie is a must-watch for any equestrian. While spending the summer in North Philadelphia, a troubled teen (played by Caleb McLaughlin) is caught between a life of crime and his estranged father’s (portrayed by Idris Elba) vibrant urban-cowboy subculture. Directed by Ricky Staub, it also features Jharrel Jerome, Byron Bowers, Lorraine Toussaint and Clifford “Method Man” Smith.
When they discovered PURA’s stables were becoming urbanized and they were in need of a new home, the directors and stars of Concrete Cowboy joined forces to ensure the legacy of the urban Black cowboy isn’t lost. A GoFundMe has been established to aid PURA in creating their much-needed new facility, which will enable them to continue giving inner-city teens access to the power of the horse.
